I was very hyped about this episode, especially after I saw the trailer. I mean, it had Bran caught up in a flashback (maybe one that would finally reveal Jon’s true parentage and confirm the R+L=J theory, with Rhaegar Targaryen as Jon's real father and Lyanna Stark as his mother), Lannister guards telling Cersei she can't pass (so Tommen’s finally stepping up, sweet!), Sansa and Brienne talking about Arya, Ramsay predicting Sansa will head for Castle Black, Jaime threatening the High Sparrow (go Jaime!) and Tyrion in front of a literal, firebreathing dragon (but Tyrion's not gonna die, they'll never kill off the most popular character, so he's gonna find out he's immune to dragonfire…maybe we'll get a confirmation for the "Tyrion is a Targaryen" theory, where Tyrion is really Aerys II and Joanna Lannister’s son).

Warning: Spoilers ahead!

Turns out, I wasn't right about everything, but my hype wasn't wasted; not at all. The episode blew my mind, even if they didn't confirm R+L=J (I am 100% certain they will do it sometime in the near future) or the "Tyrion is a Targaryen" theory.

We open with Bran in a flashback at Winterfell, and it's like he's in a pensieve from Harry Potter, he can see everything that's happening, but they can't see him. Ned and Benjen are training, and Lyanna rides in on a horse.

She looks like this by the way.

Now, this sounds nitpicky, but I was expecting her actor to have darker hair. I've seen a lot of fanart of her, mostly Rhaegar/Lyanna fanart, because I ship them, but she’s always drawn with very dark hair, like chestnut brown or darker (like this shade of brown, or this or this one), I've seen so much of those I've come to expect her with dark, Megan Fox hair, when I see her without it for the first time, it looks odd.

The Starks of the past ask Hodor to train with them, (though they call his Wyllis instead of Walder, to avoid confusion with Walder Frey, they did it before when they changed Asha to Yara to avoid confusing her and Osha) and he's able to say more than Hodor here but Old Nan doesn’t let him. The Three Eyed Raven, or Bloodraven as I like to call him pulls him out of the flashback, and Bran finds Meera Reed outside still morning for her brother Jojen, who died in season 4 but is still alive in the books, but one of the children of the forest urge her to go back into the cave, because Bran needs her and it’s dangerous outside with wights and white walkers.

It's great to see Bran back after a season's absence. I've missed the guy, and I actually liked his character arc. I know not everyone does, but I've been interested since the Three Eyed Raven told him he'd never walk again but he'd fly (so...does that mean he'd warg into a bird? or even better, a dragon? what about an ice dragon, assuming those aren't just stories? I mean the Starks are ice, so an ice dragon would fit perfectly). And when I found out Bran wouldn't be in season 5, I was disappointed they'd leave it out, but now that he's back I see it as a step in the right direction.

At the wall, Ser Alliser Thorne (who's a thorn in everyone’s back) is urging Davos and the other loyalists to come out, so the mutineers can shoot them with crossbows. They don’t, so he tries to break in with a hatchet.

But he doesn't because Wun Wun the giant, Tormund, Dolorous Eddand a shit ton of wildlings come in. This one guy tries to shoot Wun Wun with a crossbow, but the giant pulls the bolt out like it's nothing, and then he grabs the shooter and smashes him against the wall till he's dead. After seeing this, everyone drops their weapon, except for Olly and Thorne. Edd calls the latter out, Olly tries to rush at them, but that little shit gets disarmed, and to put it simply the loyalists win, and Thorne and Olly are ordered to be thrown in a dungeon. Always nice to see Olly get what's coming to him, and that little shit deserves worse than a dungeon.

In King’s Landing, a bunch of Lannister guards block Cersei from going to the Great Sept of Baelor to see Myrcella, "kings' orders" they said, "to keep [her] safe." When I saw this I was like "awesome! Tommen's finally realised just how bad of an influence his mother was! Cersei is a terrible ruler, a terrible mother and a terrible human being in general, and he finally figure it out, now he's gonna stop her from doing anything stupid, and he's playing the 'safety' card! Tommen's finally gonna do something, he's gonna stop being a total pussy who couldn't even stop the Sparrows from dragging Margaery away right in front of him and he had his kingsguard there, he's finally gonna do something badass, he's finally gonna become a man of action!"

But I expected too much. Turns out Tommen genuinely wants to "keep Cersei safe." It's not a euphemism for "keeping her under control," it is what it looks like. He tells this outright to Jaime, who then threatens the High Sparrow. I love Jaime and I cheered for him the entire time, and while Tommen is still a pussy, Jaime still has guts. Then the Sparrows come out, and Jaime sees he's outnumbered so he drops the threat to "spill the High Sparrow's blood all over the sept." If only you still had your sword hand, Jaime. Then you could've killed the Sparrow and his followers, even if you are outnumbered, 'cause at the end of the day, they're still just untrained peasants.

In Meereen, Tyrion and Varys found out the slave masters re-took Astapor and Yunkai, and Tyrion knows in order to get anything done, they're gonna need the rest of the dragons Viserion and Rhaegal (y'know the ones Dany changed up even though "a dragon is not a slave"). Tyrion decides to free them because he knows dragons don't do well in captivity, and he talks about how Aegon the Conqueror's dragons where free to fly around as they liked but his descendants raised their dragons in the Dragonpit several generations later and the last dragon was deformed, with a head no bigger than a hound's.

That was how I reacted when I saw that being included, that's how I always react when some obscure lore (bonus points if it's anything I take in interest in, like dragon lore, anything about the maesters' conspiracy to wipe out magic, white walker and Night's King lore, Asshai lore etc.) from the books play apart in the show's storyline.

He does so by talking to them and telling them about how he wanted a dragon when he was young (because when you're flying on the back of a dragon, even the smallest man can be a giant, no he didn't actually say that line, but I was reminded of him when he did say that he asked his uncle for a dragon), and he was disappointed when he found out they were extinct. They get it and they don't breathe fire on him when he removed their chained collars. This scene?

It never happened (damn false advertising). But what Tyrion did was pretty cool, and I have been waiting to see Viserion and Rhaegal freed ever since Dany chained them up, and I have been waiting to see what they can do.

In Braavos, Arya goes back to begging after losing once again to the Waif, and then Jaqen comes to tempt her to say she's someone as opposed to no one, he says she'd get food, shelter and her vision back if she admits it, but she passes the test, and resumes training, this time back at the House of Black and White. I was glad to see Arya's arc moving forward, losing to the Waif all the time would get boring eventually.

In the North, Ramsay knows Sansa's heading for Castle Black, and he suggests they attack it to kill Jon (shh...he doesn't know Jon's dead...for now). Roose thinks his plan's madness, because he's already gaining a bad reputation, and if he keeps going at it, he'd be more than just hatedhe'd be overthrown. Ramsay says they don't need the other Houses' support, the Karstarks, Umbers and Manderlys have more soldiers than everyone else combined. Wait, does that mean the Umbers and Manderlys are on the Bolton's side? Karstarks I could get, but Umbers and Manderlys? They're supposed to be loyal Stark supporters, especially the latter, I mean...they're the guys who made Frey pies in the books...

Now, you could argue they're pretending to be on the Bolton's side, and they do have their own "The North Remembers" plan up their sleeves. I'll give both Houses the benefit of the doubt for now, and I'll say fine...maybe that's the case, but expect a rant from me if it's not.

The maester comes in and announces Walda Frey has given birth to a son, and in response, Ramsay stabs Roose, before killing Walda and his half-brother too by luring her to the kennel. He tells her Lord Bolton wants to see her there, and at this point she still thinks that means Roose. Then he unlocks the cages, and tells her he's Lord Bolton before whistling to get the hounds to eat her and the baby alive.

I was genuinely surprised by this, I was expecting Ramsay to kill Walda by poisoning her and making it look like she died in childbirth (hey, that happens in Westeros all the time) like Tyanna of the Tower did to Maegor's wives. But wait...this is Ramsay. He doesn't give a shit about practicality, no matter how useful it'd be...no he'd pick sadism over that every time.

Oh, and Sansa and Brienne talk about Arya. I've given up all hope of the Stark children ever being reunited, and at this point I really doubt it'd ever happen. And Theon leaves to go back to the Iron Islands, while Brienne and Sansa head for the wall (he still doesn't wanna face Jon).

On the Iron Islands, Balon Greyjoy's being stupid, he's boasting about how he won the War of the Five Kings, because all the other guys are dead and he's the last one standing, even though he was the most insignificant player, and no one remembers what he did. He's soon thrown off a bridge by his brother Euron Greyjoy, and at his funeral, Yara swears revenge, but Aeron Greyjoy (her uncle who's a priest for the Drowned God) says she's not automatically his heir just because she's the last of his children (her brothers are dead and Theon's disowned), she can only be elected heir by the Kingsmoot. Yeah, they do things a bit differently weirdly here.

At the Wall, Davos urges Melisandre to do something to bring Jon back, she's birthed shadow demons, swallowed poison and lived, surely she can think of something, right? She does, she cuts off some of his hair and beard and burns it, then she chants some incantations, and...

...until everyone but Ghost leaves the room, then Jon opens his eyes.

And no one was actually surprised by this. Like they'd actually kill Jon before revealing his true parentage. Jon's too important to just die and stay dead.

But now that he's back...I can't wait to see what happens next. :eager: by darkmoon3636

You do realize that's just fan art... Right? Just because she's drawn with dark hair doesn't mean she will be in the actual TV show. For all we know she could be blond. Fan art doesn't translate in the slightest into the show, it has nothing to do with it.
